The Law office - History

SOLER-PADRÓ, v. HOHENLOHE, HOPEWELL, founded in 1967, was one of the first truly modern law firms in Spain and greatly assisted in opening up Spain’s economic potential to the rest of the world.*

Since the beginning its practice has focused on corporate law specializing in all aspects of overseas business and investment consulting. This practice is closely related to the surge in foreign investment in Spain from the early 1970’s to the late 1990’s, particularly from German companies. While maintaining central offices in Barcelona, Málaga and the Canary Islands, Associates Lionel Hopewell and B. von Hohenlohe have served Spanish clients of Anglo-Saxon origin in business and auditing offices located in Madrid, Valencia and Alicante.

Throughout its history Soler-Padró has not hesitated to undertake novel and controversial legal actions of great public interest and importance. One example is the representation of football player Bernd Schuster in a two-year legal dispute against Football Club Barcelona. This case marked the first legal action in the area of sport’s law in Spain’s history.

Since the latter part of the 1980’s, Soler-Padró has been at the Spanish forefront defending the rights of shareholders. In the early nineties, we successfully led a high-profile legal battle in a takeover for a Spanish listed chemical and textile group. It was the first attempted hostile takeover of a listed company through a leveraged buy-out in Spain’s history. The case was litigated for almost a decade in Spanish courts before being resolved in favor of shareholders.
Soler-Padró combines the efforts of professionals with diverse experience and backgrounds from the legal and business worlds. Through this diversity we are able to tackle and resolve complex cases and offer solutions tailored to the unique needs and requests of each client. The firm's working languages include German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese.

Since its inception, Soler-Padró, v. Hohenlohe, Hopewell has maintained offices in Barcelona, Madrid, Palma, Marbella and the Canary Islands, and has worked closely with attorneys and consultants in different countries to better serve its clients and extend its international scope. Since 1991, they have worked as partners with Morrow & Co. from New York Morrow & Co. www.morrowco.com and, since 1996, have been partnered with the consulting firm Hispachina www.hispachina.com based in Beijing.**
